Important Features of Portable Basketball Units
There are many portable basketball units available to purchase. They vary in price from $1,000 to $15,000 so when choosing one you want to make sure you are getting the best one to fit your needs. Some things to think about are storage, safety, security, and your specific use for the goals. If you are a college you definitely want to make sure the one you purchase is NCAA approved. Below are some questions you should ask:
Is the unit easily transported and stored? Your needs may be different then the next guys but measure your storage area, find out your schedules and how many people you will need to move the unit and when. Find out what size the unit is in transportation/storage position. Does the unit have wheels that are substantial enough for the weight of the unit? Does the unit have sufficient padding and come in the colors that you need? These are all important questions to think of when picking out a unit.
Does the unit have height adjustments and how easy is it to adjust to the different heights? Are you going to be using this goal for different ages and need the goal height to be adjusted? Do you need to quickly adjust the height of the goal? Think if it is difficult to change the height of the goal and you need to adjust it frequently then it will be a pain in the butt, you will want to get one that adjusts easily.
What type and length of warranty does the unit have? If you are spending the big bucks you will want to have a good warranty on the unit. Ex: Porter gives a 10 year warranty on all parts and a limited lifetime warranty on the backboard provided with the units. This would be considered a great warranty.
How does the unit lock into place when in use? You don’t want a unit that is easily moved out of place when it is important that it does not move a centimeter. A good unit when in the playing position locks into position by four, foot-operated retractable floor pads. You will want to make sure the unit you buy has a system similar to this.
