It may be called March Madness, but the action of the NCAA Basketball Tournament heats up even more in April. In April the Final Four and Championship games kick off, and the women’s bracket is one that is a can’t-miss for any basketball fan. The Final Four will have Baylor against Connecticut and Oklahoma against Stanford. Below is a synopsis of how each team got to the Final Four. Connecticut: The Lady Huskies were quickly the favorites of the season, and for good reason. They finished the season with an unshakable 33-0 undefeated record. Their scoring leaders are junior forward Maya Moore (679 points), senior center Tina Charles (678 points), senior guard Kalana Greene (433 points) and sophomore guard Tiffany Hayes (382 points). Connecticut has sailed through the tournament so far, topping Southern University 95-39, Temple 90-36, Iowa State 74-36 and Florida State 90-50. Connecticut is no stranger to championships in the last decade, taking home the trophy in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2009. Their championship from last season came from a 76-54 victory over Louisville.

Baylor: Baylor may not have had Connecticut’s dream run, but they have proven resilient over the course of the season and tournament. The Lady Bears finished the season No. 14 on the AP rankings with a record of 23-9. The team’s undeniable points leader is freshman Brittney Griner with 631 points. She is followed by senior Morghan Medlock (346 points), junior Kelli Griffin (287 points) and junior freshman Shanay Washington (262 points). Their trip to the Final Four had some close games, with wins over Fresno State (69-55), Georgetown (49-33), Tennessee (77-62) and Duke (51-48). Baylor’s last championship came in 2005. Last season, they made it to the Sweet Sixteen before falling to the eventual runners-up, Louisville.

Stanford: Stanford was nipping at Connecticut’s heels all season, with the team’s only loss coming to the Lady Huskies in December. Their 31-1 record had them second on the AP rankings just behind Connecticut, and the Cardinals were considered another powerhouse in the NCAA. Stanford has the stars to go all the way, led by sophomore forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike (655 points), junior forward Kayla Pedersen (572 points), senior center Jayne Appel (477 points) and junior guard Jeanette Pohlen (332 points). Stanford made it to the Final Four with wins over UC Riverside (79-47), Iowa (96-67), Georgia (73-36) and Xavier (55-53). The team is hungry for a championship, as their last title came in 1992.

Oklahoma: Like Baylor, the Sooners weren’t in the Top 10 coming into the tournament, instead ranked 12 on the AP rankings with a record of 23-10. The team is led in scoring by junior guard Danielle Robinson (616 points), senior forward/guard Nyeshia Stevenson (538 points), senior forward Amanda Thompson (484 points) and senior center Abi Olajuwon (395 points). One the way to the Final Four, they topped South Dakota State (68-57), Arkansas – Little Rock (60-44), Notre Dame (77-72) and Kentucky (88-68).
