Why are blacks more dominant in men’s and boys’ basketball than women’s and girls’?
When my local paper came out with its “all-area” high-school basketball team this year, all five of the boys were black but only one of the girls was.
I seem to see this pattern over and over again. For example, the local major college team nearly always, from what I have seen, has more blacks on the men’s team than the women’s. I see all-black lineups far more often in the men’s game than the women’s, whether at the college level or the pros. I also repeatedly see more blacks in All-America or all-star lineups in the men’s game, at any level. Why?
Just in case I confused anybody, I should have said “all-area teamS”, one for boys and one for girls.
You guys are over complicating the answers, the reason is very simple and if any of you have ever played the game at a high level you’d easily understand this. Men’s basketball today is played with athleticism first and skill second because coaches know you can only teach or train an athlete to improve athleticism to a certain level, guys with tremendous athleticism have a leg up and they feel they can teach them to actually play the game, shooting, dribbling, passing, etc… Black players are usually more athletic then white players (its not genetics, its because of cultural upbringing) Women’s basketball is a purer game and is still played: skill first, athleticism a distant second, since there is no big premium placed on athleticism the playing ground is even, who ever practices the most will have the most skill. Candice Parker (who is the most polished college player in the country, men’s or women’s) has ushered in a new generation of women’s basketball and in the next 10 years you’ll see a big shift towards extreme athleticism in women’s basketball.
