basketball officiating training
basketball Officiating?

so im going to become a basketball reff in aus and i start my training on may 5th and im so nervous i want to learn some basics on how to ref before i start my training just to know im a bit ahead

any tips

A good tip is to STAY IN SHAPE. As a Basketball ref you will run back and forth on the court and you will need go stamina to do this.
Do simple exercises such as jumping jacks or sprints so you’ll be in shape.

You also need a fit personality. Don’t show any type of intimidation towards the players or they might force to you call a bad call which can conclude to a bad outcome of a game.

Make easy and noticeable calls, if you see phyiscal contact where a player is hitting another player call the foul. Make sure no harsh contact is committed and if so make sure you call a flagrant foul.

As a ref always keep your eye on the shot clock. You need to call violations such as the 5 second when the team doesn’t get the ball inbound, the 8 second violation when the team doesn’t get the ball past half court while dribbling, or the 3 second violation when a player stands in the paint for more then 3 seconds.

These are all basic tatics that can be used by refs and can be improved on, if you learn theses you are on your way to becoming a favorable and great referee. Hope I helped :)
